Tale End Charity shop

Our Scottburgh Tale End Charity Shop opened  on the 1st December 2015 in Thira Village Scott Street Scottburgh.  We have been blessed by the fantastic support from the residents of Scottburgh and surrounds.  The most beautiful goods have been donated and have exceeded all our expectations.  This shop will make such a difference in the lives of so many dogs and cats as we can now sterilize and feed more.

Raising Awareness

We try to educate people where ever possible on the following issues:

Sterilizing pets

Sterilization is important for many reasons including health risks, behavioral issues and preventing more suffering through abandonment.

More info can be found here: www.friendsofthedog.co.za/to-snip-or-not-to-snip---all-about-sterilization.html

Fireworks and their effects on animals

Fireworks have only negative effects on animals, causing extreme fear, anxiety and distress. It is a cruel and completely unnecassary way to have “fun” and celebrations. More info can be found here:

Rabies, Distemper, Parvo

Rabies is a fatal viral encephalitis (brain inflammation). The disease occurs in wild and domestic mammals and occasionally in humans. It is crucial take your pet is vaccinated against rabies annually!

More info can be found here: www.health24.com/Medical/Diseases/Rabies-20120721

Distemper is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus similar to the one that causes measles in people. Infected animals shed canine distemper virus in all body secretions. Inhaling the virus is the primary source of exposure. The highest incidence of the disease occurs in unvaccinated puppies 6 to 12 weeks of age, at which time maternal antibodies fall below protective levels.

Parvo is an acute, highly contagious disease. The virus is shed in large amounts in the stools of acutely infected dogs for up to several weeks following infection. The disease is transmitted by oral contact with infected feces.

Responsible pet ownership

Responsible pet ownership is quite rare in the rural areas, and that is where we come into play. We try to help the people who honestly love their pets by educating them and showing them how to properly care for their furry ones. Most dogs here do not know what shelter is or a feeding bowl or fresh drinking water let alone annual vaccinations, sufficient excercise, socialization or love and attention. Collars are non existant and so is medical care. With serious cases of neglect we try to have the “owner” sign the dog or cat over to us in order for us to remove them and rehome them.
